About Argyll Boat Charters
Providing dive charters out of Oban, Lochaline, Tobermory or port of your choice by negotiation, Argyll Boat Charters runs an Offshore 125 charter vessel called Sound Diver. She is a fully equipped boat to MCA Category 2 which allows her to charter up to 60 miles from safe haven. The Sound Diver boat is coded for 12 divers, having ample room for divers and kit. A galley, hydraulic stern divers lift, toilet and onboard air refills completes any divers’ Wish List.
Skipper Lorne has been brought up in Lochaline and presently lives in Oban. Since he was a young boy, he has sailed the Sound and has expert knowledge of tides which allows him to get you diving in most weathers. Typically busy through the summer April to September periods, Lorne and Sound Diver are available pretty much all year round.
Made For Divers
From a divers perspective, this is an excellent charter. Not only is the skipper welcoming with jovial banter, but he has expert professionalism and of course, safety comes first. Unlike some charters, Lorne is not prissy when it comes to divers in wet gear in the wheelhouse. Indeed, divers are welcome to keep warm and out of the wind. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate are freely available in your mug, your name written in Sharpie marker pen with your choice of milk and/or sugar after each dive. There is a hand pump/flush toilet which is welcome to the ladies.
The deck space is ample for up to 12 divers, each having ample space. There is a large area for kitting up and it's great not to be stumbling around other divers. There is lots of room for your kit under the benches and hard kit boxes are allowed. There is a hydraulic lift to the rear of the vessel for diver easy diver recovery.
Typically when you depart in the morning you will return after the second dive. The best bit therefore is that air refills are available onboard which mitigates the need for two cylinders. Unfortunately Nitrox is not available, but as we were staying at Lochaline Divers, we found that we could fill nitrox overnight and have refills on board.
You can keep all kit on board until final disembarkation with the need to remove cylinders each day should you require nitrox.
